The scheme formally opened on Monday 2 June 2025 and initially applies to procedures obtained in the Republic of Ireland. Consideration is being given to extend to the rest of the European Union later this year (subject to funding). 

The scheme will be available to patients waiting two years or more on a hospital treatment waiting list in NI.
